Poetry has long been a language of mine. When I moved to Germany almost ten years ago, however, poetry faded into the background as I studied a new language and learned a different rhythm of living.
Since I've started writing regularly during the past year, poetry is finally fighting its way back to the surface. I praise God for this gift and pray that you might be encouraged in my sharing it.
Below are some of my poems from the past two weeks. You may recognize a few if you follow me on Facebook or Substack notes, but I wanted to collect them all in one place:
Yolen, Cummings, and Frost Join me as I get lost In forest, field, and fog, O'er lichen, lake, and log. Soon, my soul starts to sing Psalms of David the king When all around I see Signs of God's great glory. Then, my spirit is stirred With the whisp' of a word; I must take pen in hand To praise God for this land.
Lord, I feel weary and unwell. In your presence I long to dwell. This world offers empty pleasure And sells success you don't measure. Pick me up in the midst of pain, Renew my strength and soul again To do the work you have prepared. Your Spirit in me isn't scared Of what people say, think, or do. Please let my life be all for you.
“Dancing in the Kitchen” Tiny hands Grasp mine. With pure joy, Eyes shine. A whole world - I'm his. Heart, hold on To this.
Moods match the weather today: Overcast with gloomy gray. Still, we go outside to play, Hoping to send snark away. As we stroll down the blacktop, We hear the first plip-plip-plop. I wonder if we should stop. “Stay,” says the slender snowdrop. The first blossoms of the year All over start to appear, Reminding us God is here, Replacing ill will with cheer.
Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippans 4:6-7 (CSB)
Thank you for being my guest. In God's word you will find rest; Seek Him, be bountifully blessed. 💚
I loved the dancing in the kitchen. We truly are the whole world for our littlest ones. Thanks for sharing!
What a delightful round up, Rahel, lovely to read and a pleasure for the eyes as well. Love the artwork and I looooove alliteration.
