66_Phonics Flashcards
Come, join me in sharing the love of learning with the next generation...

Dearest friend,
I had so much I wanted to share with you this week: printables, my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, a new picture book pick, and more…
On Wednesday, however, we received the sad news about the unexpected passing of a loved one, and life currently has other priorities. We are preparing for the arrival of family members, cancelling plans to make space for a funeral, and weeping over this sudden loss.
In the midst of the sorrow, we have seen God’s goodness and provision. We see the way He carries every detail. My own little family had planned to be somewhere warm and sandy next week, as a belated anniversary celebration. Every time I wanted to book the flights and the hotel, I encountered an obstacle. The prices rose steadily every time I sat down to search, so I determined that I would simply book the cheapest option on Wednesday evening after the children went to sleep.
Right before we brought the little ones to bed, the phone call came. When the day of the funeral was named, I knew immediately that every obstacle to our trip was God making sure that we would be here to open our home to family, to have time for fellowship, and to mourn together.
Might I ask you to carry us in prayer during these hard days?
Before we part ways, I do have this gift to share with you…
When I taught preschool and primary students, I practiced with them the names of the letters of the alphabet with the traditional “ABC Song.”
To help them decode the letter sounds as a foundation for reading, we sang the song below to the tune of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”:
When we learn these sounds, you'll see, Ready to read then we will be. A-a-apple B-b-ball C-c-cat and D-d-doll E-e-egg and F-f-fan G-g-goat and H-h-hand I-i-inchworm J-j-jam K-k-kite and L-l-lamb M-m-monkey N-n-noodles O-o-octopus and P-p-poodles Q-q-quilt and R-r-rail S-s-sun and T-t-tail U-u-umbrella V-v-vase I'm nearly through, See my happy face! W-w-wagon X-x-box Y-y-yarn Say, do you see a fox? See him in the Z-z-zoo It was fun, and now we're through. If we sing this well indeed, Then it's time for us to read!
This song was passed to me by another teacher, but I did some digging on the internet to find the original author. The song is attributed to Sue Dickson, who created the Sing, Spell, Read & Write language arts curriculum. Through my digging, I even found an audio version of the song!
Most of the materials from this curriculum are no longer in print, but I wanted an alphabet chart and flashcards to practice letter names and sounds with my own children.
So, I created them, and I am passing them along to you. The first card even features my own artwork, but that apple took two hours for me to make, so I turned to Canva for the other images.
Here is the printable chart that you could laminate as a placemat for your children, grandchildren, or students:
Below are the flashcards for you to print, laminate, and cut out. I hole-punched mine and put them on a flashcard ring to flip through them from the front of the room while the children sing. We also have a set in the car for them to “read” during drives.
Thank you for being my guest. In God’s word you will find rest; Seek Him, be bountifully blessed. 💚

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I just sent a little prayer up for you.
I’m very excited about the printable!! I’ll have to print it out and laminate it this week!
Rahel, I am so sorry to hear about the unexpected loss in your family, sweet friend. I will be praying for you! 🙏
And thank you for the darling ABC printables! I will be printing these and displaying for my grandkids.
